(MEDINA VALLEY ISD — Feb. 9, 2023) — Rebecca Ozuna wants students to leave her classroom knowing they are capable of getting through any difficult obstacle presented to them.
“You can do hard things,” said Ozuna, a Potranco Elementary fifth grade math teacher. “We will all go through things. It’s changing their mentality of ‘Oh, I can’t do it, it’s hard’ to ‘You know what, I can do it. I’m capable of it.’”
Ozuna is Medina Valley ISD’s elementary teacher of the year.
In the teacher of the year process, educators are first chosen by their campus. All eight district teachers then complete a written application and the top two elementary and secondary teachers are selected as finalists. Finalists are interviewed by an external committee made up of community members. The committee determines MVISD elementary and secondary teachers of the year.
